Sean P. Sullivan

Biography

Attorney Sean P. Sullivan boasts over a decade of dedicated legal practice, with a primary focus on Family Law and Business Law.

Sean’s specialization lies in highly contested matters, whether they pertain to divorce cases or business disputes. He is a genuine attorney and counselor at law, guiding clients with skill and compassion during their most challenging times. While he possesses an unwavering ability to take any matter to trial, Sean acknowledges the significance of skillful negotiation in reaching optimal resolutions. He maintains open and direct communication with his clients, ensuring they comprehend the issues at hand and the potential outcomes they might face. Sean believes in presenting all possible scenarios, including the toughest realities, and collaborates diligently with his clients to advocate for the best possible results.

Sean’s clients and peers alike recognize him for his fair and practical approach, his zealous advocacy, and his competence in the courtroom. Fully aware of the profound impact family law or business matters can have on his client’s lives, he dedicates his utmost care and attention to every case.

Beyond his exceptional advocacy skills, Sean brings his considerable skillset to the table in negotiation and mediation, holding a certification in mediation from Northwestern University. Some of his most gratifying achievements stem from helping parties reach reasonable agreements, avoiding the time and resources that accompany protracted litigation.

Law School

Sean commenced his legal journey at The Collins Law Firm as a law clerk, where he had the privilege of supporting a team of attorneys at a preeminent Chicago-area boutique personal injury law firm. During his time there, Sean actively engaged in all aspects of high-stakes litigation, gaining invaluable experience in large-scale civil cases and class action lawsuits. Subsequently, Sean pursued his Juris Doctor at Western Michigan Law School, graduating in 2009 with a certificate in litigation.

Throughout his law school journey, Sean excelled in mock trial, moot court, and trial skills, and alternative dispute resolution classes. During his final semester, he interned with the Cook County Public Defender’s Office, representing clients in felony drug cases. He was later invited to join the prestigious Homicide Task Force, where he actively participated in the defense of a defendant in the Brown’s Chicken murder case, one of Cook County’s most prominent defense trials in the last three decades.

After graduating law school, and passing the bar, Sean served a year in the General Counsel’s Office for the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, providing crucial assistance in policy decisions, internal administration, and enforcement of professional licensing. Sean then honed his expertise in family law, working for some of DuPage County’s best-known attorneys before joining a general practice firm as its senior family law and litigation counsel.

Before attending Western Michigan Law School, Sean earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Political Science from the University of Iowa. He often finds his psychology background advantageous in devising legal strategies and approaching negotiations. A lifelong resident of DuPage County, Sean’s roots trace back to Naperville, where he attended Naperville North High School before returning to the area after college and law school.

Personal Life

When not immersed in legal research or trial preparations, Sean indulges in his passions for cooking, golfing, and enthusiastically cheering on his beloved Cubbies in their pursuit of another World Series title. Although Sean and his wife experienced the loss of their cherished rescue dog Mazie in January 2022, they found joy in adopting a quirky puppy named Roxy, who has become just as beloved and possibly even more spoiled than her older sister.

In addition to their personal pursuits, Sean and his wife actively support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, passionately contributing to finding a cure for this devastating disease that profoundly affects their extended family. Moreover, Sean proudly serves on the Board of Directors for DuPage County Court Appointed Special Advocates (DuPage County CASA), witnessing firsthand the invaluable service this organization provides to children in the DuPage County legal system who have limited advocates.
